INTERVIEW Directed by and Adapted for the Stage by Teunkie van der Sluijs Influencer-turned-actor Katya has grown weary of the press. With their superficial obsessions with her, with their mostly lazy, mostly male gazes. With their hunger for scandals in her private life. Veteran political correspondent Pierre has grown weary of the world. With its vapid fads, with its superficial obsession with celebrity. So when Pierre’s editor sidelines him to interview Katya for his paper, two worlds collide in her trendy New York loft. But despite his initial indifference to her, Pierre grows fascinated with Katya. And despite her original averseness, Katya proves to be more than his match. As they navigate between flirtation and revulsion, the line between interviewer and interviewee becomes blurred. A surprise revelation of their deepest secrets will put this unlikely relationship to the test before the night is over. Theo van Gogh’s 2003 cult film Interview was a hit on the international festival circuit, before being remade several times including in the US by Steve Buscemi. Director Teunkie Van Der Sluijs (the award-winning Raisin cycle at Internationaal Theater Amsterdam, and Head of Artistic Development at the Young Vic in London) adapts the searing two-hander for the MeToo-era, to a psychological thriller about power, role reversals and gender politics. Two actors, 90 minutes, one set, no interval

THE PIRATES OF PENZANCE The Pirates of Penzance returns to Broadway in John Rando’s star-studded, immersive, and hilariously silly production choreographed by Joshua Bergasse. It will be the 27th production of Pirates on a Broadway stage and the first Broadway production since 1982! The revival expands on the sold-out production at Barrington Stages that brought joy to audiences AND critics alike: “It’s hard to imagine more ideal entertainment than the exhilarating production of The Pirates of Penzance.” “Rejoice greatly!….it’s funny – wildly, gloriously funny…Should this "Pirates" make it to Broadway, it'll be none too soon!” “Pirates is a show we need to revisit regularly, a model of silliness that is also tender and witty and accessibly melodic and as surefire and confident as a cannon.” “An appraisal of this “Pirates’’ should start with the artistry of Rando and Bergasse, whose electric staging and choreography fuse to form a propulsive force that blasts away any cobwebs that might cling to the 1879 Gilbert and Sullivan operetta. There is not a better time to be had in the theater...than at this exhilarating production.” |
